Since 1991 she has been an Honorary Research Fellow of the University of Strathclyde in the Bioengineering Unit, UK. She has been a Full Professor in the Electronics Department of the Faculty of Engineering, at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, since 2010. She has been working as a researcher for 24 years in Bioengineering. Her current research interests include the integration of emerging technologies and the analysis of information with the use of deep learning techniques for the prediction of diabetes in elderly people, and implementing telemedicine to contribute to the digital transformation of the current health system. Since 2008, she has focused on quality promotion in education and global research in Biomedical Engineering and Bioengineering, specifically with the training of young engineers from different disciplines to contribute innovative solutions to digital healthcare services. Since 2004, she has enhanced the IEEE, EMBS, CORAL, and IFMBE by connecting the most prominent scientific societies and industries in the bioengineering fields not only in Colombia but also in greater Latin America and globally. She connected experts and professors in different engineering disciplines and organized events to encourage the next generation of bioengineers to be enthusiastically involved in the field of Biomedical Engineering. She is the first Latin American woman to hold a position in the IFMBE as an Administrative Council Member, the founder of the Luna Networking - IBM, and Founder of IFMBE Recent Graduates and Students Working Group since 2021, and finally since 2023 is the IFMBE Education and Accreditation Committee Chair.
